N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine, often abbreviated as NAC, is a derivative of the amino acid L-cysteine. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins, and L-cysteine plays an important role in several biological processes. NAC is the more stable, easily absorbable form of L-cysteine and is often used in supplements.

L-cysteine is an amino acid found in foods such as meat, eggs, and dairy products. NAC is a stable, synthetic version of this amino acid that is not found in food. It is better absorbed by the body and is often chosen for supplementation because of the advantages it offers over cysteine in its natural form.
