Lycopeen is een pigment dat van nature voorkomt in rode vruchten en groenten, zoals tomaten en watermeloenen. Dit pigment wordt vaak geprezen om zijn mogelijke voordelen voor de huid, zoals het bijdragen aan een stralende en gelijkmatige teint.

Lycopeen is een natuurlijk pigment dat verantwoordelijk is voor de rode kleur van tomaten, watermeloenen en andere rode vruchten en groenten. Dit pigment behoort tot de familie van carotenoïden en wordt vooral gewaardeerd om zijn anti-oxidatieve eigenschappen.

De voornaamste bronnen van lycopeen zijn tomaten, vooral wanneer ze gekookt zijn, zoals in tomatenpuree of -saus. Andere voedingsmiddelen met een hoog lycopeengehalte zijn watermeloenen, roze grapefruit, papaja en guave.
