De productie van melatonine neemt ’s avonds toe wanneer het donker wordt en geeft het lichaam het signaal dat het tijd is om te rusten. Dit is vaak verstoord.

GABA is een lichaamseigen stof die betrokken is bij processen in het zenuwstelsel. In wetenschappelijke studies werd een verandering in hersengolfactiviteit waargenomen na inname van GABA, met een toename van alfa-golven die typisch voorkomen tijdens ontspanning (Abdou et al., 2006).
